The "Historical
Assyrian Akabe Road – Apartment Caves Nature Walk" event, organized by
the Şırnak University Tourism and Promotion Club with the support of the
UNIDES program from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, was successfully
held on April 21, 2025.
Starting
from Fındık Village in Güçlükonak District, the walk continued
along the Assyrian Akabe Road, covering a distance of approximately 6-8
kilometers, and concluded at the Apartment Caves. Participants had
the opportunity to walk through this ancient route, which carries the traces of
the past, while enjoying stunning views, experiencing both a physical and
mental journey.
The event
was attended by the Director of Şırnak Youth and Sports Provincial
Directorate, the Güçlükonak District Governor, Assoc. Prof. Dr.
Sedat Çelik, the Director of the School of Tourism and Hotel Management at
Şırnak University, and Dr. Gökhan Kadırhan, Deputy Director and Faculty
Member, who all supported the students.
At the end
of the walk, participants had the chance to enjoy a barbecue event,
sharing a pleasant lunch in nature. The event was an important step in both
introducing the city’s historical beauties and providing students with a social
experience.
